Kings of all they survey in the Indie rock world, what ever the hell is going on over their now. To be honest, I checked out when I heard the band ‘Pigeon Detectives’. Not because I dislike there repertoire I just thought the name was fucking ridiculous.
So from one stupid name to……’French Horn Rebellion’. Actually I like both names but think in the same sentence they are equally ridiculous.
French Horn Rebellion has provided a ‘wobbly bendy slow shimmy’ around the shinny edges of nu disco with this track posted below. Simply entitled ‘Girls’. The vocal goes ‘We do it for the girls’. And I ask who doesn’t, everything red blooded males do in their lives, is based on….’Do I look cool, will girls think I’m Cool, will I make waves in the pussy pool’. So ‘Girls’ does little to encapsulate that emotion but the lyrics are clear and free for you, or me to interpret them as we like. The all encompassing slow drums form a descending rhythmic pattern. What drum pattern isn’t rhythmic? So the more I play this this afternoon I am more and more inclined to shake my head and tap my feet to the chirpy keyboards that underneath belays a fat bass line. The rock solid foundation of any good disco track. Finally ‘FHR’ have written a rap into Girls, presumable JD Samson or Fat Tony are responsible. Making Girls one of the most complete Nu Disco tunes of 2013.
