DJ’s Fakin It on TOTP – Episode 1

Have a look at some DJ’s and acts from 90’s and early 00’s who appeared on Top Of The Pops in the UK.  This was a show that encouraged charting acts to mime their performances. Some of the worlds biggest pop acts regularly lip-synced to backing tracks of their current hits, but where did this leave DJ’s and producers who had began to permeate the world of POP?   DJ’s basically make a living standing behind a table watching other people have fun and for “TOTP” the boundless energy and peaks and troffs of a 5 hour DJ set needed to be crammed into a three to five minute performance of a recent cross-over dance track. You could expect endless record queing, decks not connected to anything, extremely hastily coordinated dance moves and ATB in his DJ castle.  Hilarious and unintentionally brilliant performances.

Witness:

  • Armand Van Heldan literally not givin a fuck!
  • DJ Duke so excited to be on TV.
  • Phats and Small with four decks!
  • And, Dido Dancing!
