Another expenses scandal has come to light in the past week, this time involving The Culture secretary Maria Miller here in the United Kingdom, she has since resigned from her position. \u00a0A week ago she stood in British Parliament and apologised for her actions, as she had illegally claimed \u00a345,000 pounds for a second home. \u00a0The apology lasted just over 30 seconds in the House amidst her parliamentary peers, and that was it. \u00a0Next came an outpouring of disbelief among the public and cultural commentators, particularly as the Conservative Government has been clapping down on so-called benefit scroungers over the past year, catching, fining and in some cases jailing benefits cheats. \u00a0Ian Duncan Smith the work and pensions secretary writing for the Telegraph<\/span><\/a><\/span>\u00a0claimed on the 5th April that his reforms will save the taxpayer \u00a350 billion over the course of the 5 years the coalition government has been in power. \u00a0Good for you Tory party, you have saved the country money by clamping down on those most in need, those reliant on benefits to survive, and people unable to work or with disabilities. It doesn’t matter who you are? The Tory guillotine of justice will come crashing down on these blighters, who continue, week after week to cheat the the taxpayer out of an extra \u00a330, or \u00a340.<\/p>\n

So then, champions of reform, controllers of our future, Law makers! \u00a0How do you choose to deal with one of your own who has so blatantly broken the law? Abusing her position of power not only to claim extra monies that she should not legally be entitled, but also to obstruct the course of the investigation into her by the very parliamentary appointed comity set up to monitor and watch out for this type of behavior. \u00a0How did they address this situation? What was the outcome? \u00a0Well let me tell you this. \u00a0David Cameron the PM, and Ian Duncan Smith supported Maria Miller all the way, it is only due to public opinion that has ultimately lead to her very recent resignation. \u00a0This speaks volumes about the attitude of the coalition and all parties in government, they do not speak for the people, they hold their own interests above that of the people and here in the UK we’re ultimately living in a class based society designed to keep the rich richer and the poor out of pocket.<\/p>\n
