For those of us who are rhythmically inclined to move our bodies to Disco it would be hard not to enjoy Chromeo. \u00a0The name evokes 1950’s style American cars with gigantic fenders and design cues from the space age. \u00a0Fins, wings and rocket tip lights were all the rage, you only need to examine a\u00a059 Pontiac for an example, and although the Canadian duo probably gave little thought to this period when choosing a name, it is oft not far from my mind when someone mentions Chromeo. \u00a0Simple word association you might say. Lets make it even simpler, shinny and polished like many of their productions, \u00a0“Over your shoulder” seems to borrow a disco hook from Randy Crawford’s Street Life, but with some interesting messages about femininity interwoven through the lyrics.<\/p>\n

Two versions posted below the original and a remix from Mr Oizo (remember the puppet?) \u00a0I am impressed with both but would not like to make a final decision between the two…. Mr Oizo’s is\u00a0Ron Burgandy<\/a>, and the original is Moria Stuart<\/a>. \u00a0Make of that what you will, but in a world where likening a fictional news caster and real one to a free downloadable double release is not only a distinct possibility but actually really happening……… Right now. \u00a0You need to consider both tracks in different realms, or different quantifiable realities at least, the original is simple and effective straight to the floor Disco. \u00a0 While Mr Oizo’s has been re-programmed and run through a bleepie future sound generator with a golden voice robot oratorio. \u00a0On second and third listens you can see the links more clearly but to compare them upfront would be wrong. \u00a0Why I am suggesting that the two be compared at all? \u00a0I think is testament to the production quality of both. \u00a0Usually we’re given the original, and the bulk of projects attached are either inferior or superior, and very clearly so. \u00a0But Chromeo and Mr Oizo have made it hard for us to choose who we like best. \u00a0Finally, what makes this all so special, it’s available for free…<\/p>\n
